CONSTRUCTION AND BUILDING TECHNIQUES PROGRAMM

The program aims to offer theoretical and practical training in residential construction (including steel buildings) characterized by the interdisciplinarity between the different trades. It also allows the student to learn about the computerized management of costs and schedules.

The program has been developed to take into account green technology.

At the end of the study program, the graduate will be able to:

. recognize certain specifications;

. measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood, chipboard, or other materials for construction projects;

. locate information;

. use common machinery and manual or power tools in the course of construction work;

. carry out the work in accordance with the laws, rules, and health and safety methods in force.

If you do not have any experience or knowledge in the field of construction and carpentry, this program is an excellent quick preparation to increase your chances of employability, to be sponsored by an employer as an apprentice carpenter joiner to get started. the Ontario Apprenticeship Program, the goal of which will be to become a certified carpenter in Ontario. This program also leads to jobs in fields other than carpentry but related to the content of the program.

Advantages of the building techniques program

The graduates of the program are bilingual, a clear advantage in the eyes of employers and unions, as we teach terminology in English to better reflect the reality of the job market.

Our students receive support in order to prepare adequately in order to obtain the desired job: our graduate placement rate is a guarantee of success

The program is sensitive to the acquisition of essential skills such as digital skills in order to succeed in the skilled trades field of today and tomorrow.

Labor mobility is important in meeting the challenge of labor shortages in skilled trades in Canada: the Red Seal is a very relevant goal for skilled tradespeople and promotes employability.

To find out about the requirements of the labor market outside Ontario in the field of carpentry, as in Outaouais, Quebec, contact the legislative authorities in that location.

In general, the theoretical courses of the program are offered at the Vaughan campus and the practical courses at the Minto Trades Center – Alphonse-Desjardins campus in Orléans. Considering the twenty-minute distance between the two campuses, the schedule is planned so that the student spends his day in Ottawa or Orléans.

This program and its related fields of employment promote the integration of multicultural communities while offering interesting employment opportunities to their members.

The work placement during the third semester is an excellent opportunity for our graduates to promote themselves to an employer in order to possibly be offered a job at the end of their study program. We are having our students working on pre-construction condos projects in Vaughan

Note: Although this program is considered a two-year program, please note that it is offered in less than one year, i.e. over a period of 45 consecutive weeks (3 stages).
